Government

Independence, Missouri is a Charter City established in March 1849. It is run in a Council-Manager form of government with a Mayor, two at-large Councilmembers, and four district council members. These offices are elected every four years with the Mayor and At-Large Councilmembers, then District Councilmembers two years later.

Members of the public fill the seats of the Council Chambers as they watch the Council conduct a meeting from the dais.
