Nature Walk Thursdays at George Owens Nature Park (6 of 13)

Discover one of the trails at George Owens Nature Park with the Park Naturalist on Thursdays in May, June & July! FANTASTIC TRAVELS - Deadline to register 06-09-23
Fantastic Travels Our first stop will be Lambert’s Café for an included lunch, followed by a visit to the original Bass Pro Shop, a pioneer of destination retail, with time to explore on your own. Next you’ll go to Fantastic Caverns for a ride through tour of the cave where you will see centuries old stalagmites, stalactites, and other beautiful and amazing formations. We will make a stop at Osceola Cheese, home of over 275 varieties of cheese during the return trip to Independence. PROJECT LINUS QUILTERS 12:30 - 4:00 P.M.
Project Linus Quilters Friday, 6-9 from 12:30 - 4 p.m. Bring your sewing machine and basic supplies and come sew Project Linus quilts. Kits with a fast & fun pattern and fabric already cut are provided. Great for both beginner and experienced quilters. There is no cost for the quilt kits, backing or batting. The completed quilts are donated to children in need. Coordinator: Jodie Land.

Mayor's Trash Clean-up
Mayor Rory Rowland invites the Independence community to join him on the second Saturday of each month, April through October, from 9-11A. Please find the locations that the group will address over the next few months below. Details on meeting spots will be shared as we get closer to each date.Locations:June 10 – 291 and TrumanJuly 8 – Sterling and 40Aug. 12 – 23rd and CryslerSept. 9 – Bolger and 39th StreetOct. 14 – 291 and 23rd StreetPlease dress appropriately by wearing closed-toe shoes (preferably boots), long pants, long sleeves, sunblock, and bug spray. Drop-off Depot June 2023
The Drop-off Depot occurs the second Saturday of every month (weather permitting) from April through October. The depot is located at 875 Vista Avenue and runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.Prices are based on the type of vehicle used, not the contents of the load, except tires and appliances. The same prices apply to both trash and brush.Car: $30Pickup truck, SUV, Van: $40Trailer, eight feet or less: $50Tires, five or less: No feeTires, more than five: Above vehicle fees applyVehicles pulling trailers: If both the vehicle and trailer contain items for disposal, you will be charged for bothItems accepted:Furniture, mattresses and box springs, carpet, plumbing fixtures, sheetrock, windows, shingles, fencing, landscape timbers, bricks, paving stones, etc.Brush: Limbs, firewood, bushes and stumps.Appliances:$20 each: Refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, hot water heaters, washers, dryers, etc. Fluids do not need to be drained but the appliances must be empty of contents.No fee: lawnmowers (must have all fluids drained), batteries (auto, boat, lawnmower, motorcycle)ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED:Bagged leaves, grass, yard waste.Televisions, computer monitors, liquids, gas tanks and sealed drums
