Thanksgiving Day Holiday
City offices will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Mayor's Holiday Lighting
Kicking off the month of December, Mayor Weir invites citizens to join her at the Mayor’s Holiday Lighting at Hiram Young Park, 215 East Lexington Avenue. On December 1 at 6 p.m. the Mayor will be joined by a special guest to light the new Mayor’s Christmas tree and other features in the park. Santa will join the festivities on his mule-drawn sleigh and lead everyone up to the Square for Living Windows at 7 p.m.
Mayor’s Christmas Carnival
Celebrate the season from 9 a.m. - noon with this annual free holiday event hosted by the Independence Parks & Recreation Department. Join Mayor Eileen Weir as we enjoy a variety of games and activities. Balloon creations, popular carnival games, face painting and other surprises await you. Each child will have the opportunity to visit with Santa and will receive a bag of treats. Bring your camera if you would like a picture with Santa. Free.
Mayor's Christmas Concert
The Mayor’s Christmas Concert begins at 2:30 p.m. on December 3. Benefitting the Community Services League, the concert will be held at the Community of Christ Auditorium at 1001 West Walnut. This year’s concert will feature the Independence School District, Fourth Grade Students. In addition, there will be performances from the William Chrisman High School Concert Choir and the Spirit of Independence Band. Directing this year’s concert is Cindy Midgorden of the Santa Fe Trail Elementary School in the Independence School District. The Young MAIsterSingers of the Music Arts Institute will also perform. The Master of Ceremonies this year will again be Independence resident Dick Wilson, from 94.9 KCMO. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be accepted during the concert.
