Gallery Walk- Getting Ready
Thursdays in April & May. 2:00 PM Free with museum admission. During the month of April thousands of pioneers began arriving in Independence to get ready for their departure on the trails. During this gallery walk you will explore their experiences in town and come to understand what was needed for the overland journey.

Evening Wagon Tour and Swales Walk
Thursday, April 27 @ 6pm $16.00 per adult, $10.00 per children 6-17. Advance reservations required. Learn about the Santa Fe Trail in this hour-long program that includes a wagon ride to swales (ruts) created in the 1830s and an insightful tour of the Santa Fe gallery of the museum.

Independence Health Department Couch to 5K
Join the Independence Health Department in their FREE Couch to 5K program to prepare you to walk or run in the Independence Park Trot! Join us every Thursday (March 23-April 27) at 6 p.m. for weekly walks/runs at Waterfall Park (4501 S. Bass Pro Dr.). Trail Fun - Jumping Off
Saturdays in April & May 1-3 PM. Free with museum admission. Come to the NFTM to prepare for your epic 6 month journey to Oregon! Using a special trail guide provided at the front desk you will learn about what route you will take, investigate art to discover something about the “jumping off towns,” identify items in the General Store and finally pack a wagon with a Museum Educator as your guide! This is a wonderful way for families to discover a part of the history of westward expansion.
