Homicide Investigation on S. Huttig Avenue

At 5:30 AM today, the Independence Police Department responded to the 800 block of S. Huttig Avenue on call of an Aggravated Assault. Upon arrival, officers located a critically injured adult male outside a residence. He was transported to an area hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

A second victim, an adult female, was also located at the scene. She was transported to an area hospital and was later released. This case is being investigated as a homicide. The identity of the deceased victim will not be released until the family has been notified.

Detectives have not yet released the cause of death, which will ultimately be determined by the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

UPDATE: The homicide victim was identified as Christopher D. Waggoner, a 30 year old, white male, from Independence, MO. The investigation revealed that his death was caused by a stab wound. This is still an open investigation.
