Suspect in Stolen Pickup Flees from Officers and Crashes, Resulting in House Fire

At about 1030 p.m. this evening (03-20-2017), Independence police officers were following a stolen F250 eastbound on 23rd Street at Noland Road. The suspect driver of the vehicle fled once he realized officers were behind him.

Officers activated their emergency equipment and the suspect led them on a one minute pursuit that ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a home on the northwest corner of 23rd Street and S. Haden Street

Both the pickup and home caught on fire. The suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle exited the pickup and was taken into custody. The suspect was not injured.

Officers assisted the sole occupant of the residence out the home. This man was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Criminal charge information will be released when it becomes available.
