Police Officers Memorial Service
When: Wednesday, May 17th, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: Harry S. Truman Library & Museum, 500 W. US 24 Highway
Each year, during National Police Week, a local memorial service is held on behalf of the Independence and Sugar Creek Police Departments for police officers who have been killed in the line of duty. This annual ceremony is held to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. The event will be attended by dignitaries, fallen officer family members, police officers from each department and officers from several other jurisdictions throughout the metropolitan area.
The event includes a flag presentation by the police color guard, guest speakers, a 21 gun salute by the police honor guard and a helicopter flyer by KCPD’s helicopter unit. This will be a moving and meaningful ceremony, and on behalf of the families and friends of fallen officers, we invite you to join with us as we honor and remember their service to our communities. This year, we have changed the location and will host the event at the Truman Library instead of Independence Police Headquarters.
