Yesterday’s Police Pursuit from Independence

The purpose of this release is to provide additional information on the police pursuit that originated in Independence yesterday (9-19-2016).  At 3:00 pm, while numerous police officers were on the scene and in the area of the shooting in the 1100 block of S. Home Avenue, a vehicle was seen in the area in which there were occupants that a patrol officer believed matched an initial suspect description put out as the shooting suspect. The vehicle was a maroon colored four-door Oldsmobile sedan.

The vehicle fled from officers which resulted in a lengthy vehicle pursuit that eventually ended at NE Barry Road and N Troost Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri. Two suspects from this vehicle were taken into custody.

It was determined that these subjects were not involved in the homicide at Truman and Home but fled from police because the vehicle they were in had just been stolen in a residential burglary in Independence. These two suspects are still in police custody. Their identification as well as criminal charge information will not be released until it becomes available.

The homicide remains under investigation.
