National Night Out: Media Invite

What: National Night Out (police/community/public event)

When: October 4th, 5pm-8pm

Where: Hill Park - 2201 S. Maywood Avenue, Independence, MO


On Tuesday, October 4th, neighborhoods throughout Independence are invited to join forces with communities nationwide for the “National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Independence Police Department. (please note: this event is also held in August in some areas) National Night Out is designed to: Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;

  • Generate support for, and participation in local anti-crime efforts;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 5pm to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 4th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Independence and are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. The Crime Prevention Unit, with the Independence Police Department, has arranged a large community block-party located at Hill Park (2201 S. Maywood Avenue). We invite neighborhoods city-wide to join us to "Give Crime a Going Away Party". There will be food, informational handouts, free giveaways and demonstrations from the various units within the police department, including the K-9, SWAT, and Traffic Safety (motorcycles) units, among others. (Sugar Creek P.D. should also have their Hummer, boat and a police car.
