Police Pursue Stolen Vehicle

At about 10:10 a.m. today (01-24-2016), Independence Police Officers located a stolen vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Blazer, parked outside a residence in the 500 block of S. Crysler Avenue. Before officers could get into a position to take further action, two subjects entered the Blazer and fled the area.

The subject driving the vehicle refused to stop and led officers on a vehicle pursuit. One Independence police officer, who was not pursuing the Blazer, was southbound on Crysler Avenue and attempting to get to a position to set up spike strip device to help end the pursuit. When the officer attempted to make a left turn eastbound onto W. Linden Avenue, the police vehicle was struck by an uninvolved vehicle, a white four-door Mazda with three occupants. None of the three occupants in the Mazda sustained injuries requiring medical treatment. The officer in the police vehicle was injured and transported to an area hospital. The officer was later treated and released. The crash is still under investigation at the time of this release.

The Blazer continued to flee from police officers into Kansas City, MO but the pursuit was later terminated. The Blazer was recovered shortly thereafter in Kansas City, MO. The driver is not in custody at the time of this release but the passenger was located and taken into custody.

Shortly after this pursuit, a second stolen vehicle was located at the initial residence on Crysler Avenue. It also fled the area and was located unoccupied nearby shortly thereafter. The driver and passenger of this vehicle were taken into custody. The second vehicle was taken in a burglary in Independence overnight. At the time of this release, three total subjects were taken into custody and face numerous criminal charges
