Two Vehicles Crash and One Driver Arrested

On 01-13-15 at about 9:00 am, an Independence Police Officer was traveling westbound on Truman Road near Ash Avenue with activated emergency equipment (lights and siren) heading to the northwest corner of Independence to assist another police officer on a call. The officer then observed a silver Jeep in front of him also traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. The Jeep then failed to stop at the red light on westbound Truman Road at Ash Avenue. The Jeep continued westbound for a short time and lost control at Truman Road and Menown Avenue, which is when it crossed over into the eastbound lane and struck a silver Kia sedan.

The police officer was not in pursuit of the Jeep but it appears the driver of the Jeep was trying to flee the area for unknown reasons. The three occupants of the silver Kia all sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The driver, and sole occupant of the Jeep, was taken into custody but also transported to a hospital for injuries sustained during the crash. Further investigations revealed that the driver had a Felony probation violation warrant for her arrest.

A loaded handgun, ammunition and marijuana were found in the Jeep. There was also a large amount of new clothing, all with tags still on them and no store bags in the vehicle. The driver of the Jeep faces various charges and her identity will not be released until she has been charged.
