Burglary Suspects Apprehended after Vehicle Pursuit

At about 12:55 pm today (01-04-16), Independence Police received a 911 call of a residential burglary in progress in the 9500 block of E. Winner Road. The caller advised that three black male subjects just broke into her home and were leaving in a vehicle with some of her belongings. The caller described the suspect vehicle, a blue-grey Pontiac Grand Prix, to the 911 call-taker who quickly dispatched the call to police officers. One officer observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the area and attempted to stop it. The suspects refused to stop and led police officers westbound on Truman Road in a vehicle pursuit.

A stop stick device was deployed on Truman Road at Blue Ridge Boulevard and successfully deflated at least one tire on the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle continued westbound on Truman Road and crossed into Kansas City, MO. Just after the bridge over the Blue River, the driver of the suspect vehicle lost control and struck two vehicles that were also westbound on Truman Road. This crash occurred just west of Winchester Ave before Ewing Ave. Two suspects were apprehended shortly thereafter after they fled from the suspect vehicle on foot into the area neighborhood.

The two suspects were placed on 24-hour investigative holds for various criminal offenses. Suspect information, as well as information on criminal charges, will not be released until charged are filed.

One of the vehicles that was struck by the suspect vehicle struck a pedestrian, who was on the sidewalk on the north side of the road. The person who was struck had just pulled over and gotten out of his vehicle to assist a man in a wheelchair on the sidewalk. He was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
