Train Accident Victims Identified

The names of the two individuals who were struck by a train on Friday, May 1, 2015, have been released. They are Mr. Edwin Moore, 57 yrs old, and Ms. Denise M. Cooley, 57 yrs old. The couple was apparently on the railroad track in an area where there was no designated crossing and they were struck by a train at approximately 8:11 p.m.

Ms. Cooley apparently died at the scene and Mr. Moore was taken to a local hospital where he continues to be treated for serious injuries.

It was determined that the couple had recently arrived from Colorado and had only been in Independence area for perhaps two weeks. No permanent residence for either one has yet been established. Notification to the family of Ms. Cooley was made during the weekend.

As a public safety reminder, except for crossing railroad tracks at a designated crossing, it is considered trespassing to be on any other area of railroad property without permission.
