Suspect Charged in Vehicle/Property Crimes

After an in depth investigation by the Independence Police, an Independence man has been charged with eight separate Felony counts of tampering with motor vehicles and thefts. Bond has been set at $150,000 secured. Each count is classified as a Class C Felony and can carry a sentence of up to seven years imprisonment. The suspect’s name is Kevin W. Harris, 27 yrs old.

Public Information Officer Mike Mansur of the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office will be releasing the charging documents today.

Subsequent investigation revealed a second suspect to be involved in these crimes and it is anticipated that charges may soon be filed against this individual. It is also anticipated that Harris may have several more charges forthcoming as the on-going investigation unfolds.

Independence Police has recovered a large amount of stolen property from these crimes which occurred over an approximate one month period of time, ending April 3, 2014. If anyone believes they may have been a victim of theft from their automobile, please contact the Independence Police Investigative Division to see if any of their stolen items may have been recovered.
