Under general supervision, performs services within the Municipal Services Department/Collection Systems Maintenance Division.  Utilizes smoke machines, tablets, flow meters and a variety of construction equipment to locate and repair points of infiltration and inflow of clean water into the sanitary collection system.  Responsible for identifying, documenting, and repairing points of entry of clean water into the sanitary sewer collection system.  Duties include smoke testing, defect evaluation, manhole inspection and repair, creating work orders and service requests for work performed and defects found. Performs investigative work during and after rain events. Communicates with citizens and customers.  Performs emergency services during non-business hours as needed.  Duties include maintenance, cleaning and making repairs to equipment as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of six months to one year progressively related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must possess a valid state Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker and Air Brake endorsements or permit and must be able to obtain license within six months of hire.  Must complete required NIMS level training within the first six months of hire.  Must have knowledge of operation, construction, and maintenance of sanitary sewer systems. Knowledge of preventative maintenance and minor repair procedures for construction and/or maintenance equipment; general construction safety rules and guidelines.  Requires ability to work in confined spaces and knowledge of the safety procedures utilized in such.  Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.  Ability to read, write and communicate effectively; to read and interpret street and sewer maps and layouts for job locations and assignments.  Requires attention to detail, accuracy, and following oral and written instruction.  

Physical Demands: Must be able to perform assigned tasks in all types of weather.  Hearing and visual acuity required.  Must be able to climb in and out of confined spaces.  Must be able to shovel, dig, walk on uneven surfaces, stoop, bend and lift 75 lbs. (plus or minus 25 lbs).  Requires hand/eye coordination to run equipment and machinery. 

Typical Working Conditions: Typical wastewater and stormwater collection system and drainage environment, involving manholes, trenches, etc.  Heavy work performed outdoors the majority of the time.  Weather conditions can range from extreme heat to extreme cold.  Contact with the public and other City employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, gathered, or presented.  Hours of work 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
