Monitors process equipment and components of units of process within the Water Pollution Control Department. Obtains samples for laboratory testing; prepares conditioning chemicals. Performs record keeping and preventative maintenance on equipment, buildings and grounds as assigned. Performs control equipment checks, makes adjustments to incoming messages, and performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year’s work experience. Knowledge of pumps and pumping equipment, pipes and valving, flow control equipment and sampling procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing; perform mathematical calculations; and follow oral and written instructions. Skilled in the proper use of hand tools, including a hand-held calculator. Must possess or obtain a Commercial Driver’s license and hold or obtain a Missouri Class ”D” wastewater operator’s license within 6 months. Must have CDL permit before beginning work. Must complete NIMS training within first six months of hire.
Physical Demands: Occasional lifting of 75 lbs., plus or minus 25 lbs. Ability to move in and out of confined spaces. Occasional use of respiratory equipment required.
Typical Working Conditions: Normal wastewater treatment plant environment, including the potential for exposure to different types of hazardous materials, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases. Exposure to inside and outside conditions of extreme cold and extreme heat. Position may involve shift and weekend work.
