Assists in the daily meter reading operations and scheduling activities within the Power and Light Department. Audits meter reading for accuracy through verification of data received. Authorizes overtime, signs time sheets and requisitions. Responds to emergencies; schedules equipment repairs and uniform and small tool reorders. Conducts field checks of routes being read; performs spot meter reading checks for comparison purposes. Analyzes various printouts for inaccuracies, malfunctioning meters, improper multipliers, or probable theft of services. Adjusts route assignments as needed; serves as supervisor in his/her absence. Addresses customer concerns and complaints and takes appropriate corrective action. Ensures that meters are installed correctly and functioning properly; reports defects for further action. Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree in technical field preferred; two to three years of progressively responsible related experience; or, an appropriate combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must complete NIMS training within first six months of hire. Knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures, safety procedures and guidelines; record keeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques; computer applications related to the work; operations and functions of water and electric meters and the use of related equipment. Skilled in accurately reading utility meters, using a hand held computer processor, and recognizing and identifying abnormal or unusual conditions in meter operation. Ability to communicate effective orally and in writing. Physical Demands: Standing, kneeling, stooping, crawling or crouching, walking and using hands to finger, handle, or feel. Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 75 lbs. Typical Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Field work consisting of exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, dust and the possible risk of bodily injury from electrical shock.
