Under general supervision, serves as primary administrative support to the Tourism Department, this includes system administration for tourism software platforms and website updating. Serves as visitor information source for the City to individual and group tourists. Performs and supports the tourism computer system and administrative needs of the Tourism Department including specific tourism software, training and core understanding of computer software system(s), processing expenses and tracking adherence to the annual budget. Responsible for inputting and managing the accuracy and timeliness of content on tourism website. Manages the distribution of tourist information, brochures and other collateral material in response to requests from individuals and tour groups. Makes reservations for tour companies group tours. Compiles monthly statistical reports for advertising responses and tourism information requests. Processes departmental payroll via computer software. Compiles monthly attendance figures for nine historic sites. Prepares routine correspondence, typing, filing and other clerical functions. Maintains an ongoing calendar of events.
Minimum Qualification: High school diploma or GED; and Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in related field such as management, hospitality, tourism, with two to four years progressive responsible related work experience. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Strong understanding of core software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop and Flash. HTML knowledge is a plus. Proficiency to provide strong customer service relations with the public. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilites: Historic sites in the City of Independence. Office administrative practices and procedures, such as business letter writing and the operation of standard office equipment, including a word processor and personal or on-line computer. Recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques. Writing skills, correct English usage including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary. Standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals. Basic budgetary principles and practices. Computer applications related to work. Communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing. Dealing courteously and diplomatically with the general public. Typing moderately complex documents such as reports and charts containing numerical information at a rate of 45-50 words per minute. Physical Demands: Work is performed in a normal office environment with little exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust. Working conditions are typically quiet.
