Telephone Scam Operating in Independence
Independence residents should be aware that there is a possible credit card scam taking place in the city. Independence Water Director Dan Montgomery has issued a warning that residents are receiving telephone calls from a person saying they work for Indpendence Power & Light.

To protect your privacy, the City of Independence has incorporated industry-standard secure server software (Secure Socket Layers) into sensitive sections of the web site. We encrypt all of your personal information - credit card number, name, and address. Customers must have an SSL (Secure Socket Layer) 128-bit enabled browser such as Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 4.7 or later to view thier account. You'll know the information is protected if a closed-lock symbol pops into view in the lower right-hand or left-hand corner of your screen. This ensures you are in a secure environment.

All of the customer data is kept secure and confidential and is protected against unauthorized access - that's why we require each customer to enter his or her access number and Personal Identification Number (PIN) in order to gain access to account information.
