City of Independence, Missouri

Independence Fire Department issues burn ban for Jan. 19 through 8 a.m. Jan. 20

A city-wide Burn Ban has been issued for the remainder of today, January 19, and will remain in effect until Thursday, January 20, at 8 a.m. for all outside or open fires (except for residential barbequing).  The ban is a result of high winds which are forecasted to be up to 20-30 mph beginning today and continuing over the next 24 hours.

Citizens are reminded to properly dispose of smoking materials, fireplace logs and barbeque charcoal by placing them in a metal container after dousing with water.

For further information about the current outdoor burn ban, citizens may contact the Fire Prevention Division of the Independence Fire Department at (816) 325-7121 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
