Plan now for severe winter weather

Life threatening cold will be in our area later this week. It is important that everyone take steps to limit their time outdoors on Thursday and Friday. Wind chills overnight could reach as low as -40 degrees, which can bring on frostbite in less than 15 minutes. Please help us share information about the Warming Site at the Sermon Center with anyone that may need it. Staff and volunteers are working with Warming Site patrons to connect them with overnight resources.

The Warming Site is available at the Sermon Center Dec. 20-22 from 8A-7:30P, and on Fri., Dec. 23, from 8A-12P. Those needing help can also call 211 at any time to seek information and resources 24 hours - seven days a week - 365 days per year.

Additionally, please know the signs and symptoms of hypothermia. Hypothermia, or abnormally low body temperature, is caused by prolonged exposures to very cold temperatures. Warning signs of hypothermia are different in adults and infants. Adult symptoms include shivering, exhaustion, confusion, fumbling hands, memory loss, slurred speech, and drowsiness. Infant symptoms include bright red or cold skin and very low energy. If you notice any of these signs, take the person’s temperature. If it is below 95° F, the situation is an emergency—get medical attention immediately. Call 911.
