City of Independence Council to vote on Special Election to fill vacant At-Large Councilmember seat

On Monday, April 18, the Independence City Council will transition with the swearing in of Mayor-Elect Rory Rowland and At-Large Member Elect Jared Fears. Mayor Eileen Weir and At-Large Councilmember Mike Huff will transition out of their seats at the end of old business on the agenda.

The new council will then take up new business, including an emergency ordinance for a special election to fill the seat left vacant with the loss of At-Large Councilmember Karen Deluccie, who won re-election on April 5 for a third term.

If approved, candidate packet pickup will take place on April 19, candidate filing will open on April 25, and close on May 18. A primary election will be held on August 2, and, if required, a general election will be held on Nov. 8, 2022.
