Spirit of Independence Concert Band

This band is a group of local musicians under the direction of Jane Hicklin. They perform concerts at different venues in the City of Independence throughout the year.

Powerhouse Theatre

This theatre is located at the Roger T. Sermon Community Center. The theatre is owned and operated by the City of Independence Parks/Recreation/Tourism Department.

Powerhouse Theatre Foundation

This foundation was established in 1997 to oversee the upkeep, renovation, and improvements to the Powerhouse Theatre. Since its establishment, the Powerhouse Theatre Foundation has taken the reins on fundraising and all proceeds are used exclusively for theatre expenses. Along with fundraising, the Powerhouse Theatre Foundation has been instrumental in obtaining at least five grants. The foundation has used the money it raised to add in new lighting, upgrade the sound equipment, repair the theatre balcony and stage, and most recently install new theatre seating. The contribution from the Powerhouse Theatre Foundation to the whole community is immeasurable. The three theatre groups mentioned below collectively offer 10 performances throughout the year in the Powerhouse Theatre. The continued support of the foundation assures that the community of Independence and the surrounding area will benefit from a quality venue for the production of fine arts.
