Hiring for Center Attendant positions within the Parks/ Recreation/Tourism Department.  Primary duty is to assist with programs and events at the Palmer Senior Center, this will involve irregular work hours.  Additional duties may include assisting with the coordination of recreation centers and historic sites programs, rentals, activities, and special events.  Will process facility rentals, class and program registrations, and various other financial transactions.  Responsibilities include answering telephones, data entry and other record keeping, interacting with the public, facility supervision and equipment set-up for special events.  Will assist with maintaining grounds and facilities.  This position’s home base will be the Palmer Senior Center but could be scheduled to work at other facility locations including the Roger T. Sermon Community Center, Truman Memorial Building/Independence Uptown Market, George Owens Nature Park, various city-owned Historic Sites including Vaile Mansion and Chicago & Alton Depot.



Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent and six months experience with recreation programs preferred, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Bilingual skills beneficial.  Ability to perform cash transactions and data entry on the computer.  Ability to communicate effectively with public over the telephone and in person.  Requires valid driver’s license.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.  Palmer Center requires registry on the Family Care Safety Registry immediately upon hire and completion of food handlers permit within first six months of hire. 



Physical Demands:  Frequently required to stoop, stand, walk moderate distances indoors, kneel, climb stairs, climb 10 ft. ladder, crouch, crawl, and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Ability to hear and hand dexterity to operate a computer and cash register. 



Typical Working Conditions:  Normal indoor setting, occasional outdoor exposure for special projects.



HOURS AND DAYS OF WORK VARIED, INCLUDES DAYS, EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS.
