Maintenance Supervisor - Water Main Construction

Supervises the day-to-day operational and administrative work of subordinate staff in the Water Department involved in a variety of tasks relating to the repairs, improvements, modifications, and construction projects involving the water distribution system.  Assists with building, fleet, and grounds maintenance.  Analyzes personnel organization and distribution and project requirements to affect the most efficient and economical utilization of available personnel.  Analyzes equipment requirements and makes recommendations for purchase or replacement of equipment.  Responds to complaints from City departments and the general public.  Makes field inspections to evaluate progress of programs and projects.  Supervises the maintenance of the inventory of all supplies required to perform the duties of the position.  Supervises the performance of landscape work on yards after distribution system repairs/modifications are completed; returns resident’s yards to original condition.  Supervises the entry and exits of entry permits for confined spaces.  Prepares status reports on assigned activities.  Serves as On-Call Supervisor on a rotating schedule and responds to problems related to area of responsibility after hours, weekends or holidays.  Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications: Requires: High School diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience performing construction and maintenance related duties, which include at least three (3) years serving as a supervisor over less experienced staff.  Prefer: Associate degree in Administration, Environmental Sciences, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Must have or obtain within first six months of hire date a valid State, Class A, Commercial Driver’s License.  Must have or obtain within the first six months of hire date a Missouri DNR Class DS-II, or higher, Drinking Water Distribution License.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire date.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of materials, methods and techniques used in the Water department; cement construction; computer applications related to the work.  Skilled in planning, organizing, assigning, directing, supervising, and reviewing and evaluating the work of staff.  Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Physical DemandsRegularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Working Conditions:  Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  Office environment is typically quiet, and temperature controlled. 



Hours of work: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
