Engineering Technician III

Under general supervision, performs non-exclusive work involving the layout and design of construction projects, developing, coordinating, and managing electric distribution and transmission projects; including contract development and implementation; development of work orders and material estimates; easement procurement, estimation, drawing development, crew consultation; and general management of contract crews to ensure that project intent is achieved.  Performs extensive drawing and mapping using AutoCAD; maintains data base records on automated systems.  May supervise or participate in surveying activities.  Acquire easements and right of way for projects through negotiation with landowners.  Determines land value and zoning.

Minimum QualificationsAssociate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and four years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Valid driver’s license required.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.  Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of principles, practices and standards of engineering and construction.  Principles and techniques in surveying and drafting.  Principles and practices of real estate negotiation, acquisition, and real estate law.  Knowledge of AutoCAD systems and operations.  Skill in applying mathematical concepts and principles.  Skill and ability in recordkeeping, report preparation, filing, computer applications related to work, and general office practices.  Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints and technical codes and specifications.  Ability to speak effectively before public groups and respond to questions.  Physical Demands: While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use of hands to handle, finger, or feel, and to reach with hands and arms and be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Typical Working Conditions: Working conditions are in both office environment and outdoor weather conditions.
