Under the supervision of the Communications Manager this position manages the Parks|Recreation|Tourism Website and web pages, Tourism Mobile Application and Social Media Channels. Responsibilities include implementing approved social media plan by posting content; reviewing and updating Visit Independence website; monitoring and creating reports from social media and mobile application analytics. Assist City’s Communications Manager with the development of stories and content for print, social media and website related to the department and its divisions. Work with the Communication Manager to create publications for the Tourism division, including the annual Visitors Guide, and any other materials needed throughout the year to promote the attractions of the City. This position would also assist the Communications Manager in ongoing marketing campaigns for the City. Provide regular updates and reports to various boards, commissions, committees, and the City Council. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university in Communication, Journalism, Marketing or Information Technology, or related field and at least one year of progressively responsible experience in Multimedia Communications or Information Technology or, Associates degree in Marketing or related field and two years of experience performing related duties; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Requires knowledge of: Principles, practices, and methods of public and media relations, writing, editing, page design, and layouts of publications both written and digital; basic principle of computer applications related to the work and of office procedures. Skill in: Excellent command of the English language, including spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary. Ability to: Maintain effective relations with media and online bloggers; deal courteously and diplomatically with public and online community; speak effectively before groups and respond to questions; navigate between buildings several miles apart and maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance and punctuality. Physical Demands: Frequently required to walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear; and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures or dirt and dust. Working conditions are typically moderately quiet. The position may require working during evenings, weekends, and holidays to ensure operation efficiencies.
