This employee will be a member of a team and assist the Recreation Services Supervisor with managing the operations of the City’s 85-acre nature park. Responsibilities involve: developing community partnerships with individuals and groups to promote the responsible use of natural resources and the community’s park system; assisting with the development of permanent and temporary exhibits; assisting and facilitating on and off site programs, ranging from environmental education, outdoor skills, special events, George Owens Nature Park programs and park reservations for a diverse user group; providing quality customer service to park visitors, answering phones and park questions; collecting statistical and program and park data; conducting research for programs and exhibit displays; assisting with the supervision of seasonal staff, volunteers and other assigned employees; maintaining educational and informational displays, caring for live fish and live animal exhibits; and following opening and closing park guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications: B.S. Degree in outdoor recreation, wildlife management, biology, natural sciences, fisheries, or related field and a minimum of one-year paid experience in the field of exhibit design, outdoor education, interpretive work, or a combination of education and experience to qualify. This employee will be an effective public speaker/teacher, be able to be physically active to assist with operational routines/outdoor educational activities and have the computer skills necessary to efficiently coordinate the needs for daily operations. This employee will work a non-traditional work schedule to manage program operations and have on-call responsibilities for the Nature Park and special events. Valid driver’s license. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Hours of work may vary. May be scheduled to work evenings and weekends. Regular work schedule Tuesday - Saturday.
