Recreation Coordinator - Sermon Center

Under general supervision of a Recreation Services Supervisor(s), will develop, coordinate, and implement programs, events, classes, and activities. Supports programs and events at the Roger T. Sermon Community Center and other events throughout Parks/Recreation/Tourism. Oversees facility operations pertaining to furniture, fixtures, and equipment including all fitness equipment. Assists with preparing and distributing class and program schedules and flyers. Maintains records and completes monthly and other various reports as necessary. There is no Sports involved with this position. Performs other related duties as assigned. 



Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Parks and Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Exercise Science, or a related field and one year plus of responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must possess a valid driver’s license. CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications must be obtained within first six months of hire. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. General knowledge of park ordinances, principles and practices of facility operations, basic recreation programming as it pertains to programming area, basic budgetary and accounting principles and practices, computer applications related to the work, and policies, procedures, and operations of parks facilities and programs. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively with others, orally and in writing, making public presentations, evaluating facility maintenance needs, and recommending appropriate action, using tact and discretion, organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction.



Physical Demands: Frequently required to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.



Typical Working Conditions: Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, cleaning solutions and close physical contact with the public. Working conditions are typically moderately quiet and require a high level of public interaction.  Hours and days of work vary. May be scheduled for evenings and weekends. May occasionally be required to answer City provided cell phone during irregular hours.
