Investigates service requests pertaining to environmental concerns; resolves issues using field testing equipment and laboratory service.  Identifies and investigates environmental code violations and initiates or recommends corrective action; provides follow-up surveillance to ensure completion of corrective action or refers to compliance administration.  Sets up and maintains automatic sampling programs on area businesses in accordance with State and Federal pre-treatment regulations.  Performs flow studies; locates sources of infiltration and inflow and recommends corrective measures; performs dye and smoke testing procedures.  Assists with pretreatment inspections; performs water quality studies on area waterways and performs follow-up investigations to identify sources of contamination.  Maintains inventory of response supplies in the event of environmental emergencies.

Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent and two to three years of related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires valid driver’s license. Must complete require NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and ordinances relating to environmental protection and compliance; proper flow measurement and sampling procedures; knowledge of GPS equipment and ability to instruct on usage for locating   sanitary and storm sewer systems. Skilled in operating, calibrating, and maintaining technical instrumentation.  Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to maintain effective working relationships.

Physical Demands:  Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Typical Working Conditions:  Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; possible bodily injury from falling from high, exposed places, explosions, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
