Performs work involving providing direction to and supervision of first–line supervisors engaged in various technical activities. This position reports to Electric Distribution Manager. Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with City policies, procedures and applicable laws including: interviewing, hiring and training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supervises and directs the work of employees supervising crews in the performance of construction and maintenance activities of electrical substations overhead & underground electrical systems. Supervises and directs work of employees in performance of construction and maintenance activities of high voltage transmission systems. Plans, allocates, and monitors time, people, equipment, and resources for the unit to ensure efficient organization and completion of work. Oversees the day-to-day operations of unit activities to ensure effective and efficient accomplishment of goals. Follows and enforces all safety protocols established by City and safety standards. Coordinates the work of staff with other units, departments, outside agencies/contractors to facilitate efficient completion of work.  Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public in order to provide information and resolve problems. Complies information and prepares reports of unit activities and projects; reports on the status and progress of projects. Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including attendance standards and work deadlines. Serves as Emergency Response Coordinator as needed during storm restoration operations. Required to be Duty Superintendent a minimum of one week per month. Ability to temporarily serve in the capacities of fellow T&D Superintendents or Electric Distribution Manager as needed in their absence. Operates a motor vehicle to conduct city business. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 6 years of progressively responsible related experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential functions of the job.  Requires a valid driver’s license.  Must complete NIMS training with first six months of hire.  Status of Journeyman Lineman preferred.     Knowledge of the most recent edition of the National Electrical Safety Code, basic budgetary principles and practices; administrative principles and practices; and computer applications related to work. Skill in proper use of hand tools and equipment relating to overhead and underground electrical construction; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up assignments; good mathematical skills, communication clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; selecting and motivating staff and providing training; and clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.  Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.  Requires initiative, sound judgment, and ability to meet deadlines and problem solve, dealing with a variety of concrete variables. 

Physical Abilities:  While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. 

Working Conditions: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions; fumes or airborne particles; and possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of machinery, electrical shock, falling from high exposed places, explosions and toxic or caustic chemicals.
