$22.26 - $33.70 hourly salary range

Performs engineering work involving the layout and design of construction projects for the Water Department.  Performs extensive drawing and mapping using AutoCAD; maintains database records on automated systems.  May supervise or participate in surveying activities.  Assists with project management and completes field inspections for Water Department projects.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsAssociates degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; and, four years of progressively responsible related experience, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Valid state driver’s license required.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.  Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of principles, practices and standards of engineering and construction, real estate negotiation and acquisition, and real estate law.  Knowledge of principles and techniques of drafting and surveying.  Knowledge of principles of technical design and layout of construction projects, mathematical concepts, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and computer usage and applications related to the work.  Knowledge of the appraisal process, principles of supervising and directing subordinate personnel, and applicable state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations.  Skill in using spreadsheet and database software, AutoCAD systems, performing drafting and surveying activities, communicating clearly and effectively with others both orally and in writing, using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines, and preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.  Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings, speak effectively before public groups, write routine reports and correspondence.  Physical Demands: Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to handle, finger or feel; and to reach with hands and arms, and be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Typical Working Conditions:  Typically moderately quiet in the office and typically loud in the field; frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions when in the field.
