Seasonal Maintenance Worker (George Owens Nature Park)

TEMPORARY POSITION – SIX (6) MONTH MAXIMUM EMPLOYMENT TERM

Seasonal work assisting nature park and recreation division staff with activities and maintenance/custodial routines at George Owens Nature Park and other sites.  Maintains grounds (mowing, string trimming, clearing brush), shelters, restrooms, and lodge; assists with trail maintenance, planting, and trash pickup.  Operates trucks, mowers, trimmers, chain saw, and other small hand tools.  General office responsibilities to include greeting the public, answering phones, monitoring activities, assisting with special events, facility opening/closing routines.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Must be 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with the general public.  Knowledge of utilization of general tools and power equipment.    Interest in outdoor recreation/education preferred.  Physical DemandsWalking, pushing, and lifting standard equipment and tools.  Sufficient clarity of hearing, visual acuity, and manual dexterity.  Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. and to climb ladders.  Typical Working Conditions:  Outdoor conditions including extreme heat and cold and adverse weather.  Exposure to dirt, dust, and chemicals.

Hours of work will vary to meet the operational needs of the department; will include weekends/evenings.
