Performs the work of managing and overseeing the day-to-day field operations of the Water Department’s Distribution and Customer Service divisions to include but not be limited to; construction, installation, maintenance and operation of all transmission mains, distribution mains, service line components and other facilities required to receive and distribute the water supply.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in a related field, and four to six years of progressively responsible related experience; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires Missouri DNR Drinking Water Distribution System III (DS III), when eligible. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Knowledge of water distribution systems, drinking water plant operations, principles and practices of management, administration, and supervision. Skill in supervising, organizing, directing, and evaluating the work of staff. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Requires effective oral and written communication skills. Requires skill in using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment; preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadline, and following up assignments with a minimum of direction. Physical Demands: Employee is frequently required to climb or balance, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear; and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and possible bodily injury from electrical shock, falling from high places, explosions, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Working time may require irregular hours and shift times.
