Telecommunications Coordinator

Under supervision and direction of Telecommunications Supervisor, assists with planning, installation, maintenance and operation of communications systems. Design efforts include IP, Fiber Optic cable networks, lightwave/SONET systems, VOIP/digital /analog telephone systems, wireless and microwave and land based radio systems, digital/analog multiplex, UPS systems, data communications equipment and remote telemetry/SCADA-EMS systems. Provides input on large network expansions and the implementation of new technology. 

Minimum Qualifications:   Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field with emphasis in communications, or related field experience.  Five to eight years of experience in installation and maintenance of modern network systems with knowledge in all facets of Ethernet and associated protocols; must have a strong understanding of voice and data wide area network (WAN) technologies.  Including Scada/EMS systems, Fiber Optic networks, Wireless, Microwave, Broadband and similar technologies; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred.  Valid driver’s license required.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge of principles, practices and advanced theories of engineering; applicable federal, local, and state regulations.  Must be able to troubleshoot complex switched network communication issues.  Must have experience designing and implementing large-scale wide area network (WAN) technologies.  Skilled in computation and analysis, including trigonometry, geometry, algebra and elementary calculus; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up assignments with a minimum of direction. 

Physical Demands:  Frequently required to walk, sit, talk and hear and occasionally lift approximately 20 lbs.

Typical Working Conditions:  Work is performed in both an office environment and outside with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt or dust.
