The City of Independence is recruiting Police Technician I candidates in the Records Unit. This customer service position requires processing and auditing a variety of records including stolen autos, missing persons, fraud, and forgery and protection orders. Provides audit, entry, indexing, storage, maintenance, retrieval and dissemination of Police Department records in accordance with federal, state and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations; collects monies for the sale of police reports and photographic fees when applicable. Trained in the areas of Local, Mules and NCIC terminal information, including records retrieval and microfilming. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent with one year experience of related duties is preferred. Selected applicants will be asked to take a typing test (35 wpm). Within the first six (6) months of hiring, candidate must pass a written examination on the Missouri Sunshine Laws, complete NIMS training, and be MULES certified. Position requires ability to maintain multiple computer systems at one time. Must be able to work rapidly, accurately and process cash record sales according to procedure. Requires ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and demonstrate initiative within established guidelines. Requires a background check, drug test, polygraph test, oral board interview, and psychological examination.
Tattoo Policy: Tattoos, body art, or brands that are extremist, indecent, sexist, racist, offensive, or inappropriate for the law enforcement community are prohibited, regardless of location on the body. The final decision on the interpretation of a tattoo is determined by the Chief. An employee shall not have any tattoos, body art, or branding on the head, face, neck, scalp, or hands, unless authorized by the Chief because of special circumstances. While on-duty, excessive tattooing, body art, or brandings shall not be exposed or visible (including through the uniform). "Excessive" is defined as any tattoo, body art, or branding that exceeds one third of the exposed body part.
Physical Demands: Occasionally required to use a maximum of 25 lbs. of force to move or lift objects. Requires hand dexterity for office machine operation, stooping and bending to files and supply shelves. Frequent standing or sitting for extended periods of time.
Typical Working Conditions: Normal office environment.
You must be available to work ANY shift. Must be available for shift work and weekend work. Days off rotate every 28 days. Hours of work: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. / 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. / 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
