Utility Maintenance Mechanic

Responsible for inspecting, servicing, and maintaining all of the Water Department's equipment, vehicles, pumps, motors, tools, and machinery in proper condition and working order. Duties also include maintaining all Water Department buildings, structures, furniture, etc., and keep same in good condition.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or equivalent.  Vocational training in welding, painting, electrical wiring, carpentry and mechanical repairs desired.  Must possess a valid Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver's License within first six (6) months.   Knowledge of distribution system as outlined in the Water Department Water Main Installation Standards within one month; Water Department manual of safety regulations, guidelines and programs within three months.  Able to use a laptop/computer in order to read and interpret the distribution system valve plats; inspect service and maintain all equipment, vehicles, pumps, motors and tools and machinery; check and maintain buildings, structures, furniture and keep same in good condition; operate mobile radio equipment and telephone; communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.  Typical Physical Demands:  Able to climb ladders and in and out of confined spaces, bend and lift 75 lbs., plus or minus 25 lbs., and able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.  Typical Working Conditions: Outdoors including varying adverse weather conditions.

Hours of work: Sunday-Thursday 11:30pm-8:00am.
