Tourism Sales Manager

Current opening is in the Tourism Department. Under limited supervision, seek, identify and develop new and existing business for conventions, associations, religious planners and other group/meeting travel planners and manage related services. Perform the sales and marketing required to solicit and book events for the City, resulting in increased hotel occupancy and media exposure.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, hospitality, travel and tourism, or related field; at least five years of progressively responsible experience in tourism or marketing industry; or any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must possess a Valid State Driver’s License with excellent driving record. Required to complete at least ten contact hours of continuing education each calendar year.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. 

Knowledge of: Principles and practices of the tourism industry, sales and marketing and customer service; administrative principles and practices including planning, organizing, supervising, directing, coordinating, budgeting, goal setting, program management, report writing, records management, data collection and input, statistical analysis, and grant writing and management. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and contribute to building a positive team spirit. 

Physical Demands: Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear and occasionally required to lift/move up to 40 lbs.  

Working Conditions:  Typically quiet.  Hours may vary dependent upon travel and other special events.
