Revenue Protection/Electrical Inspector

$5,138 - $7,706 per month

Performs electrical inspections to insure project is built to plan specifications and is in compliance with all applicable state and local ordinances.  Inspects electrical installations for residential, commercial, industrial, and all distributed energy resource installations to ensure compliance with the requirements of the adopted version of the National Electric Code.  Oversees the detection, correction, prosecution and restitution of theft or fraud of all types from utilities.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent and six to ten years of related building/electrical experience working for a municipality, or electrical contractor; or Associate’s degree or technical school degree in related field, and four to eight years of electrical inspection experience for a municipality; or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job; and minimum of 2 years working for a municipality; or electrical utility, performing revenue protection activities, and inspection work, and minimum of 3 years with previous experience with renewable programs development, installation and inspections, or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Extensive experience in revenue protection and utilities inspection preferred. Minimum Three (3) years’ experience of plan review and installations of electrical low voltage systems to include Security and Fire Alarms, Closed Circuit Television Systems (CCT), Nurse Call Stations, Broad Band Internet, Fiber Optic Networks, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN).  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the electrical trade’s field which has provided experience in reading blue-prints, electrical codes, and use of adopted reference material relating to electrical codes preferred.  Extensive experience in plan review, inspections, permitting of distributed energy resources installations for a municipality or electrical utility preferred.  Valid driver’s license.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of most recent edition of the National Electrical Code that pertains to the installation of residential, commercial, industrial applications and plan reviews and includes review and interpretation of residential, commercial, industrial electrical plans and specifications.  Knowledge of Independence Power and Light diversion security process including the citation and court process.  Skilled in using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.

Physical Demands: Able to climb ladders. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; climb or balance; lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close and depth vision.  

Working Conditions:  Incumbent is exposed to outdoor weather conditions; the air quality of the work environment often includes gases, mists, fumes, odors and poor ventilation. Employee sometimes is exposed to or works near moving mechanical parts and equipment.  The incumbent's working conditions are typically moderately loud.
