Under general supervision, performs basic to moderately difficult power engineering designs and is assigned moderately sized projects for the Power & Light Department's electrical distribution system. Position assists others lower level engineers with basic designs.  Performs other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited college or university in the field of specialization, such as BSCE, BSME, BSEE, etc.  A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is required. Minimum of two (2) years general utility/general engineering experience is required.   Experience in municipal systems operation design and maintenance is beneficial.  Position requires in lieu of above a combination of education, training and experience commensurate with the skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Knowledge of the principles and theories of electrical engineering, and project management and administration.  Knowledge of National Electricity Safety Code and National Electric Code.  Skill in mentoring lower level engineers, coordinating projects to meet established deadlines and time frames.   Ability to read and understand distribution system plans and specifications.  Able to minimally supervise consulting engineers and construction contractors.  Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 

Physical Demands: Occasionally exposed to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of machinery, and electrical shock.  Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; reach with hands and arms; and use hands to finger, handle or feel.
