Performs skilled work involving the operation and maintenance of heavy and technical equipment within Public Works.  Performs roadside maintenance, outside building and property repairs.  Operates snow removal equipment as required.  Assists crews and performs related duties such as asphalt, concrete work. Maintains required records and reports and prepares status reports on assigned activities in Cityworks data management system.  Performs emergency service during non-business hours as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED. Three to four years of progressively responsible related experience in general labor and heavy equipment operation.  Must be 21 years of age.  Must possess a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and without K restriction or if selected for position, obtain Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License permit prior to first day of employment. Must obtain flagger certification and work zone training, and complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.  Knowledge of safety rules, policies and procedures related to area of specialty, and standard practices, materials, tools, safety hazards and precautions used in various construction trades.  Skilled in using a wide range of hand and power tools and equipment. Ability to troubleshoot complex problems related to construction and maintenance issues, and to follow oral and written instructions.  

Physical Demands:  Able to stoop, crawl, crouch, reach overhead, negotiate stairs and ramps, climb ladders, bend and lift up to 45 lbs. plus or minus 25 lbs.  Must be able to stand and walk distances on hard floor surfaces and maintain balance on uneven surfaces and in elevated situations.

Typical Working Conditions:  Outdoor conditions of extreme heat, cold and severe weather.  Exposed to bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools and machinery, and noise from various hand tools.
