Facilities Supervisor

$4,670 - $7,005 per month

This position is a working supervisor who plans, organizes, directs, manages, and supervises the activities of a work crew or skilled crafts people in the performance of facilities maintenance and custodial maintenance for the Public Works Department.  May also operate equipment as necessary. Responsible for assessment of all work projects for efficiency, economy and personnel requirements. Will assist in the preparation of cost estimates for assigned projects. Duties include maintaining accurate inventory of supplies, supervising the maintenance of equipment and making recommendations for purchase or replacement of equipment.  Plans and directs implementation of daily maintenance schedules. Will maintain required records and reports, and prepare status reports on assigned activities in Cityworks data management system. Will make field inspections to evaluate progress of programs and projects. Responsible for assisting in the preparation of the department budget. Responsible for prioritizing and acting upon requests or complaints received from City departments and the general public. Will respond to problems related to area of responsibility after hours, weekends or holidays as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have high school diploma or equivalent and requires four to six years of progressively responsible related experience with three years at a supervisory level; two-year technical certification in HVAC, electrical or security systems preferred; or, any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Must possess a valid state driver’s license and may be required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License Class A if required to perform snow removal duties. Must complete required NIMS level training within the first six months. Requires knowledge of materials and techniques used in public works, utilities, and construction and maintenance activities.  Must have knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical distribution, remodeling, carpentry, security systems, custodial maintenance and basic design and office layout. Requires skill in standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals, record keeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management, basic budgetary principles and computer applications.  Requires knowledge of applicable safety procedures, and state, federal and local laws and regulations.  Requires effective oral and written communication skills.  Requires excellent customer service skills, organizational skills, initiative, sound judgment, and ability to meet deadlines.  Must possess ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  

Physical Demands:  While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and lift and move up to 50 pounds.  The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  

Working Conditions:  While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals, wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, risk of radiation, and risk electrical shock.  The incumbent’s working conditions are typically loud.

*Salary offer will be dependent upon candidate qualifications, internal pay equity, and market rate of pay. Entry level offer will not exceed the midpoint of the range except for exceptional circumstances and qualifications.
