Business License Compliance Officer I

$15.21 - $22.81 per hour

Administers the day to day issuance and renewal of business licenses and permits to include; business licenses, landlord licenses, liquor licenses, liquor permits and other special permits.  Collects prescribed fees and maintains complete records of all license/permits issued.  Conducts investigations of violations of licensing standards and works to obtain compliance with applicable City code requirements and regulations.  Assists with automated license computer system issues.  Provides backup cashiering and general counter assistance.  Provides accurate responses to inquiries and customer service to the public and employees.  Maintains and updates the Police Tow Rotation Program.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two to four years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Must type 30 words per minute; will be asked to take a typing test if selected for an interview.  Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations; related basic code requirements for other city departments; recordkeeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary; standard business arithmetic, including percentages and decimals; and computer programs related to the work.  Skilled in operation of a motor vehicle; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction; using a computer to accurately and rapidly enter and retrieve data and information; communicating clearly and effectively, orally and in writing; preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials; attention to detail.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional periodicals and journals, technical procedures and government regulations; to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole number, common fractions and decimals;  to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; to focus and multi-task with frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.  Frequently required to stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. 

Typical Working Conditions: Working conditions are typically moderately quiet; occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
