Supervises the daily and emergency operations of the electric power system; establishes policies and standard operating procedures for the power system. Supervises personnel responsible for operation of transmission and generation assets. Works with Operations personnel to develop training programs and ensure personnel complete training as required by internal policies, NERC and other regulatory agencies. Participates in planning process for transmission and generation equipment outages, reviews and approves requests. Interfaces with Department Staff, Regional Transmission Operator (Southwest Power Pool), and Energy Marketer to assure reliable and economical operation of the electric system. Provides technical review of engineering studies related to system operations & maintenance. Reviews, corrects and approves transmission system switching requests. Provides technical review of engineering studies related to system operations & maintenance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Requires bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with six years of progressively responsible, related experience or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge and ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Valid driver’s license required. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire.
Knowledge of: Design & operation of electric power systems, electrical construction standards, national electrical safety code, accounting & cost estimating, computer applications related to work and applicable local, state and federal laws. Requires ability to research & compile data and to present clear, concise reports & correspondence. Must have good organizational skills, be able to meet deadlines and set priorities with a minimum of direction. Must possess ability to develop and effectively utilize staff and oversee work of contractors. Requires ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing and be able to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages and ratios to practical situations.
