Performs general maintenance and custodial duties as needed within the Public Works Department/Facilities Maintenance division. Installs, repairs, or replaces fixtures, ballasts and fuses. Performs general exterior maintenance of City buildings including grounds maintenance and snow and ice removal, replenishing restroom supplies, and related maintenance duties for various City buildings. Assists other Building Maintenance workers and performs related duties as assigned. This position will be assigned to work on a snow removal shift during snow operations.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED and one to two years of progressively responsible related experience in building maintenance or an appropriate combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and safety hazards and precautions used in various building trades. Knowledge of operation of cleaning equipment, general housekeeping procedures and proper use of cleaning chemicals. Requires ability to communicate effectively with others and ability to understand written and verbal instructions. Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision. Requires a valid driver’s license. Must complete the required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Physical Demands: Lift, move or carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, etc. Walking, standing, bending, crouching, using hands to finger, handle or feel objects; reaching with hands and arms, willing to enter and work in confined spaces. Typical Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to possible bodily injury from toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts or equipment, tools, or machinery. Regularly exposed to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists and gases. The incumbent’s working conditions are typically moderately loud. Hours of work: 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
