This position within the Public Works Department, performs manual custodial functions related to the care, upkeep, and preservation of municipal facilities and may provide support to other Facility Technician positions. Maintains a variety of floor coverings, washes windows, cleans rest rooms and replenishes supplies, moves office equipment and furniture, replaces light bulbs, maintains security of assigned building, empties waste containers and removes all trash to disposal areas, dusts, and vacuums upholstered furniture. Cleans and maintains City Hall, Independence Police Department, City Jail, and various municipal buildings. Removes snow and ice from walkways, driveways, and equipment. Cuts grass, weeds and brush, trims trees and bushes. May need to operate motor vehicle and drive to other city locations to haul and deliver supplies, to conduct City business and to perform related work as requested.
Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. Must possess a Valid Driver’s License. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Knowledge of: General housekeeping policies, proper use of cleaning equipment and general cleaning equipment and chemicals. Skill in: Maintaining interpersonal relationships and working as a team member in fulfilling the requirements to maintain municipal facilities in a clean and sanitary condition. Physical Demands: Work is performed within various municipal facilities, and requires a full range of body movements including bending, stooping, walking, and standing for extended periods of time. Employee must be able to run polishing machine, climb ladders, carry trash, carry equipment, push vacuums, and pull heavy containers. Trash containers, equipment, or supplies could weigh up to 75 pounds. Normal office environment for the majority of the time. Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, and cleaning fluids, wet, and slippery surfaces. Occasional outdoor conditions may include extreme heat and cold.
