Salary: $3,384-$5,950 per month
Performs work involving the review of plans for the issuance of building permits within the Community Development Department. Also performs on-site inspections of residential and commercial construction projects, structures and systems as needed. Insures compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable laws; assigns and directs work; addresses complaints, and resolves problems. Reviews construction plans for compliance with applicable City codes. Reviews and interprets building and construction plans daily; microfilms all required State archival plans. Meets with the public concerning any problems; reports results to superiors. Distributes plans to appropriate departments for review on new projects submitted for building permits. Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field; and four years progressively responsible related experience; or, an appropriate combination of education, training and experience. Require the ICC Certification related to plans examiner or be able to obtain this certification within 36 months from the date of employment. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and city laws, codes and ordinances; methods, practices, and techniques of construction. Computer applications in the area of assignment. Skilled in preparing and presenting reports; performing basic mathematical computations; administration of staff and activities. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Must complete NIMS level training within first six months of hire. Physical Demands: Stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. Lift and/or move up to 20 lbs; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Ability to perform visual inspection of construction sites, if needed. Sitting/standing for extended periods of time. Hand dexterity to operate a personal computer. Typical Working Conditions: Typically loud conditions; front counter duties issuing permits and entering inspection tickets.
