During the month of October, the water department hosts the 5th graders from all 19 Independence Elementary Schools. The water cycle is a 5th grade science objective, so the tours help emphasize the elements of the water cycle and the importance of keeping groundwater clean. The tours include a video on the water cycle, stops in the operator control booth, plant laboratory, and an opportunity to see water in the various stages of treatment. Each person is also able to make and eat their own edible aquifer. Over 1,100 students and teachers participate in this study trip.
