During the month of October, the water department hosted the 5th graders from all 17 Independence Elementary Schools. The water cycle is a 5th grade science objective which is taught in October, so the tours help emphasize the elements of the water cycle and the importance of keeping groundwater clean. The tours included a video on the water cycle, stops in the operator control booth and laboratory and an opportunity to see water in the various stages of treatment. Each person was also able to make and eat their own edible aquifer. Over 1,100 students and teachers participated in this study trip.
