City Recycling Centers

Now accepting electronics!

The City of Independence has partnered with Midwest Recycling Centers to offer electronics and appliance recycling year-round at both locations. Almost anything with a cord or a battery is accepted.

Vista Avenue Recycling Center

Location: 875 Vista Avenue, 1 mile east of M-291 on Truman Road
       8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sundays
     10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Mondays


35th Street Recycling Center

Location: 13600 E. 35th Street, 1/2 mile west of Noland Road
     10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Fridays
       8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays

The recycling centers will be closed on the following days:

New Year's Day - Friday, Jan. 1                        Christmas Day - Sunday, Dec. 25

Items accepted: office paper, magazines, newspaper, cardboard and paperboard, steel, tin and aluminum cans, plastic #1 - #7, plastic shopping bags, glass bottles, toner and ink cartridges, and rechargeable and dry cell batteries.  Materials must be separated and placed in the appropriate bins.

Styrofoam is not accepted.   

Electronics accepted:  TVs, DVD and VHS players, computer monitors, towers and peripherals, stereos, gaming systems and cell phones

Other items accepted: appliances, air conditioners, lawn and garden equipment  (Drain all fluids from lawn mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers, etc.)

All items are free except some televisions:
$20 each - TVs less than 27"

$40 each - TVs 27" and larger

$50 each - All wooden console & rear projection TVs

Free - All LCD, plasma and LED flat-screen TVs of any size
