Annual Electronics Recycling Event April 13

The Public Works Department is sponsoring the fifth-annual Electronics Recycling Event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13. In the first four years of the collection, more than 126 tons of electronics have been turned in for recycling.
Originally scheduled for April 20, the date was changed at the request of Midwest Recycling Centers (MRC) the operators of the event.
Residents may bring computer monitors, small appliances including microwave ovens and vacuums, stereos, scanners, cell phones, pagers, etc. to the large parking lot on the southwest corner of Kansas and Liberty. This event is open to the public and no proof of residency is required.
MRC has also partnered with the City of Independence to take over management of the two drop off recycling facilities located at 865 Vista Ave., and 13600 E 35th Street. Beginning May 1 the list of items accepted at the facilities will include the electronics, appliances, white goods, items containing Freon, and lawn and garden equipment as well as all goods currently accepted. Fees for both the drop off centers and the Electronics Recycling Event are as follows:
• $15 – TVs 27" and smaller
• $35 – TVs over 27" (includes console and projection TVs)
• Free – Computer monitors, flat screen TVs (LCD, LED, plasma)
• Free – Appliances, lawn and garden equipment (fluids drained)
• Free – All other electronic goods (cell phones, stereos, laptops, etc.)
