Independence Announces Weather-Related Cancellations

(INDEPENDENCE, Mo.) Monday, February 25, 2013 – The State of Emergency Declaration for the City of Independence remains in effect through Thursday, February 28. Due to the anticipated severe winter weather, the City of Independence announces the following cancellations and closures:
º The City Council Study Session and Executive Session scheduled for tonight, February 25, have been canceled.
º All City offices and facilities will be closed to the public Tuesday, February 26. There will be no meal service at The Palmer Center.
º Independence Municipal Court will be closed Tuesday, February 26, and all court sessions canceled. Please contact Municipal Court on Thursday, February 28 by calling (816) 325-7235 or (816) 325-7239 to obtain information regarding rescheduled court dates.
º All Health Department classes will be canceled for Tuesday, February 26.
º City bus operators plan to continue regular service through Monday, February 25. Both IndeBus and KCATA will provide notice through their websites and local news stations if they change to a snow route plan or suspend scheduled service. IndeAccess and IndeAccess Plus riders are encouraged to limit transportation. Every effort will be made to provide transportation, but road conditions may prevent safe travel.
The Police Department and the Public Works Department again ask residents to avoid parking on the street. If unavoidable, vehicles should be parked on the north side of east-west streets or along the west side of north-south streets. Mayor Reimal urges all citizens and visitors to put safety first by staying home and off the roads.
